ww2dbaseIn response to a 1935 request by the Japanese Army for a new monoplane fighter design, Mitsubishi developed the Ki-33. The design was essentially a upgraded version of the older Ki-18 design. Two prototype aircraft were built in mid-1936. Trials were held between the Ki-33 design and rival designs from Kawasaki and Nakajima from Nov 1936 until the spring of 1937. The Nakajima Ki-27 design was ultimately chosen, thus Mitsubishi would cancel the Ki-33 project altogether.
