I wonder if this photo might have been June 1942 rather than 1943. This particular T-34 was a very early model, the 1940, and by June 1943 the Panther was about to debut. Not a lot of reason to go slumming in an obsolescent T-34 model by that time, unless it was just a publicity shot as well it could have been.

HOW AM I GONNA TELL THE FUHRER WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A TANK LIKE THE T-34.
ITS ROUGH, CHEAP TO BUILD, RELIABLE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN, ITS POWERED BY A DIESEL ENGINE, HAS SLOPPED ARMOR WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THAT. AND THOSE SNEAKY RUSSKIES EVEN PUT THE DRIVERS CONTROLS ON THE LEFT!
