Major General Clarence L Tinker, first Native-American Major General.
On June 7, 1942 he was leading a flight of
B-24 Liberators on a long-range mission against Japanese forces on Wake Is.
General Tinker was killed when his B-24 crashed into the sea. In his honor Tinker Air Force Base was named in January 1948
