ww2dbaseThe Soviet 160-millimeter M1943 breech-loading mortars fired heavy 40.8-kilogram ammunition against enemy positions. Due to their heavy weight, they were designed to be towed by motored vehicles. During WW2, each mortar brigade was assigned 32 of these weapons, and they were fruther broken down to 8 weapons per battalion. About 535 of them were built during WW2. After the war, they were superseded by 160-millimeter M1953 mortars. Many surplus weapons were then given or sold to Communist forces around the world, and many are still in use at the time of this writing.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
